And behold, there was a travelling nativity...

Away in a manger: Mary and Joseph with the shepherds

More than 400 people of all ages flocked to Inglewhite to see the village church’s travelling nativity, in which scenes were performed at various locations around the village.

This was the second year Inglewhite Church had staged such an event and so popular had the inaugural one been it was decided to hold two performances.

The previous day’s rain abated and a dry night added to the nativity’s success, the cast including a real donkey – with Mary able to ride upon his back – and sheep.

“It was a fantastic night and everyone enjoyed themselves, both the cast and the people watching. It was a real celebration of the real meaning of Christmas,” said Pastor John Irwin.

It is hoped a DVD of the travelling nativity will soon be available.
