Garstang Football Club was one of the beneficiaries of a long cycle ride undertaken by Ian Collinson, managing director of
C & C Supplies and Dave Coggins, of Coggin’s Furniture, Garstang, who cycled to all Premiership Football Clubs and some Football League Clubs to raise money for various charities.

Ian Collinson whose, son Joe plays for Garstang FC’s Youth Team, and Dave Coggin presented a cheque for £1,000 to Les Taylor, of Garstang FC, along with a couple of signed shirts which will be auctioned at the club’s forthcoming sportsman’s dinner at Blackpool Football Club on March 14.

Les said: “We are very grateful to Ian and Dave it is a great gesture.

“Due to the very wet weather we have incurred extra costs providing facilities for matches and training.

“One thing that we have had to do is to move the youth team home games down to the 3G behind Morecambe FC Globe Arena.

“The extra funding will go towards financing the youth set-up which is very important to us for the future of the club.”

Ian and Dave completed the 1,250-mile trip in just 10 days, supported by Ian’s wife Janet and son Sam, battling wind and rain and enduring a ride through London on one of the hottest days of the year.

The pair up to Newcastle and down as far as Southampton, and was the latest in a series of challenges, including Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower, Land’s End to John O’Groats and Garstang to London Tower Bridge.

They estimate that over the years they have clocked up around 35,000 miles after taking up cycling around eight years ago to keep fit.

“Dave said: “We started cycling to clear our heads after work, and it became more and more extreme.”
