Ken helps young to stay safe on roads
Special award: Alan Donkin (left), LABGC county director, hands Ken Newsham, of the Forrest Hills centre in Ellel, an award for his support to the charity
A youth worker has been presented with a special award for his charity work.
Ken Newsham, who runs the Forrest Hills centre at Ellel, has been presented with an award in recognition for the great support his company has given Lancashire Boys and Girls Clubs over the past 15 years.
Forrest Hills has allowed the charity to use its facilities for holding the popular QuadSquad quad biking sessions plus other activities, including archery for young people from across the county.
Alan Donkin, LABGC county director, said: “Their support has been invaluable. They have allowed us to deliver QuadSquad sessions to hundreds of young people from across Lancashire over the years, so it gives us great pleasure to say thank you to the Newsham Family.
“The QuadSquad project aims to help save lives in the future by teaching young people about the risks of dangerous driving and help improve their road skills.”
Young people participate in a road safety theory session in which they examine the consequences of speeding and irresponsible driving.
“After the theory they take to the quad bikes, on which they are taught basic quad riding/driving skills, control and awareness of other vehicles.
They are then led on a trek around several acres of country side.
The Lancashire Boys and Girls Clubs organisation is trying to raise funds to keep the project going; maintenance costs and new waterproof suits are just some of the issues which require funding.
The county wide youth charity, established in 1934, provides a wide range of activities and opportunities to more than 8,000 young people from member clubs throughout Lancashire, from its base on Meeting House Lane, Lancaster.
