Congratulations: David Gardner (left), President of Garstang and District Lions, and Ian Chapman

Garstang Lions have honoured one of their members for his 50 years’ service.

At their most recent meeting on January 15, and at their recent Christmas party, the Lions paid tribute to Ian Chapman.

Mr Chapman has been a Lion for 50 years, serving in various clubs around the UK.

He received a long service award from the Lions in recognition of his untiring work for various causes throughout the years.

He also received an acknowledgement of his services to the Lions from HRH the Countess of Wessex, who is the patron of the Lions in Great Britain and Ireland.

There were also numerous other messages of congratulations and thanks.

Garstang and District Lions presented Ian with an engraved glass commemorative trophy to celebrate his achievement, and to thank him for all his hard work for the Garstang group over many years.

The presentation took place at the Stepping Stones Restaurant, in Cabus.

Mr Chapman was recognised for his very active and influential contribution to the Lions organisation.

Through many years he has provided assistance and helped to raise funds for numerous good causes in the area.

Most recently he has been in charge of collecting used spectacles from people living in the Garstang area.

The spectacles are recycled and sent for distribution around the world. They benefit people in poorer countries who would otherwise have been unable to receive proper eye care.
