Bright idea that could save cash
A new collective energy switching scheme, aimed at saving on energy bills, is off to a great start with registrations exceeding expectations.
Wyre Council has played a lead role in setting up the People Power scheme, which is run by 13 local councils across Lancashire.
It encourages people, including those with pre-payment meters, to join forces in looking for energy suppliers, using the idea that through bulk buying everyone will benefit from the best deal.
Wyre Council leader Peter Gibson said: “People Power could potentially save residents up to £250 off their energy bills.”
The deadline for registering is midnight on April 8. Register online at www.wyre.gov.uk/peoplepower, giving details of energy usage.
Alternatively, ring Wyre Council on 01253 891000, or take your energy bills to roadshows at Garstang Library on March 14 and 28 and April 4, from 5pm - 7pm.
Information is collated and taken to energy suppliers who then bid for the business. There is no obligation after registering, as residents can later accept or decline the energy offer.
