Revellers pack town for festival

Waiting for Video...

Thousands of happy revellers flooded the streets of Garstang for the town’s annual Victorian Festival.

Stilt walkers, jugglers and morris dancers were among the entertainers making
their way up and down the packed streets, as the public enjoyed stalls, food and entertainment.

Along with bands, carol singing, fairground rides and a huge range of stalls offering festive fare and gifts, shops on High Street and across the town centre stayed open late, some offering free tastes of food and drinks.

Charity stalls did a
roaring trade, and collecting
buckets rattled as festival-goers dropped in spare change.

Damian Carr, chairman of the organisers and the town’s Chamber of Trade boss, said: “It was lovely, and the
weather was super.

“Everybody who took part did a marvellous job.

“I’d like to thank the
organisations who helped us, too, especially the Lions and the police.”

The festival, which sees High Street closed off to
traffic, always begins with the parade, when Father
Christmas is led by a band and
entertainers down the main street to his grotto.
