Catterall Gala (PICTURE GALLERY)

BRILLIANT sunshine and big crowds helped to make Catterall gala one of the best ever.
The village was bathed in sunshine on Saturday as the weather helped to crown what is always a popular event.
The new queen is Eleanor Burford, aged 11. New Rosebud queen is Abigail Burford, aged seven.
Visiting queens in attendance came from Scorton, Calder Vale, St Michaels, Churchtown, Garstang and Nateby Primary School.
Rev Andrew Wilkinson stood in for gala president Rev Ron Greenall. Mr Wilkinson also said a few words dedicated to the memory of the late Neil Thompson, a long standing gala committee member who died last year.
Prizes:
5 to 7s: 1 Conner Delaney (Dalek), 2 George Wilkinson (Dr Who)
8 to 11s: Kieran Delaney (Indians)
Over 12s: 1 Amy Kelsall and Hayley Phillips (Magic circle)
Groups: 1 Karen Ogden, Jackie Garth, Katie Garth, Sam Garth and Daniel Garth (Indian Jones)
Charlotte cup (awarded first time) to Amy Kelsall and Hayley Phillips (best girls in fancy dress)
Stuart Longton trophy (best boy in fancy dress) to Conner Delaney.
Floats:
1 Cock Robin Pre School (101 Dalmatians)
2 Rainbow Pre-school (Lego land)
3 Jelly Beans nursery (Big top)
Football: St Thomas's B beat St Thomas's A 4 - 2 to win the Brockholes Arms trophy.
Fancy dress judges: Marjorie Prentice and Garth Swallow
Floats Judges: George and Ann Shepherd.
This year's crowner was Karen Price, deputy head at Kirkland and Catterall School.
Gala secretary Marlene Davies said: "What a fantastic day. We could not have asked for better weather. The crowds were out in force and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Thanks to everyone who made the gala a brilliant success."
