A GROUP of daring girls from Myerscough have bared all for a fundraising calendar in aid of wildlife.
The 2010 Calendar Vet is the idea of vet Gillian Williams, who wanted to raise £100,000 for animal rescue charity Animals Asia Foundation.
The 12 vets and veterinary nurses from Rufford Veterinary Group in Lancashire chose to snuggle up to pets in the saucy, but tasteful calendar – featuring horses, dogs, cats and even 12 rescued moon bears.
Gill learned the plight of moon bears at the 2006 British Veterinary Nursing Association congress. In China these endangered bears are farmed for bile used in traditional Chinese medicine, spending years in horrendous conditions and cramped crush cages.
Gill said: "Tears poured down my cheeks as I read about the tortured and barbaric way these majestic animals live every day.
"I was captivated by the moon bears' faces and knew I had to help any way I could.
"The calendars are great Christmas presents for animal lovers and I hope the whole vet community and its suppliers will get behind us too.
"All the Calendar Vet girls have been brilliant, brave and worked so hard."
Jill Robinson, founder of AAF, said she was bowled over by the Calendar Vets' support.
She added: "It takes some courage to show a little extra flesh – but the brave vet nurses from the Rufford Vet Practice have left their blushes behind by posing elegantly and tastefully together with their beloved best friends."
Gill is pictured on her 17-year-old Appaloosa horse Nipper.
Claire Robinshaw, also from Myerscough, is pictured in May with her pet rabbit, George.
She started the final year of her degree last month to qualify as veterinary nurse.
Claire said: "The girls all pulled together for the calendar. I was very nervous because I've never done anything like this before. It's for a brilliant cause and I really enjoyed the experience in the end."
Also featured is Emma Norris, pictured with rescued cat five-year-old Betty – who she hand-reared after she was abandoned at 10 days old and Kate Abels, with pet pug, Maddie.
