BRIGHT and breezy weather helped give Churchtown festival a real summer feel on Saturday.
The procession was led by Churchtown Boddington Belles Morris Men accompanied by their two 'maidens' who entertained the crowds along the route and on the festival field with their highly amusing dancing.
They were followed in the procession by Poulton Band, retiring Queen Victoria Myrescough and the new queen Amelia Russell and their retinues, then by the dignitaries, visiting queens and their retinues, local organisations, floats, a jazz band and fancy dress entries.
After a short service at St Helen's church led by Rev Andrew Wilkinson the procession then returned to the field, where Mr Wilkinson opened the festival and Mrs Josie Beattie crowned the new queen.
This year's judges, Mr and Mrs John Meadows, Constance Whalley and Margaret Catterall, presented the certificates, prizes and trophies to the worthy winners.
During the afternoon the sun continued to shine. The children enjoyed the races followed by a competitive fathers' race. There was a popular circus workshop, bouncy castle, donkey rides, tombola, stalls, games and afternoon teas. Garstang Fire Brigade brought along their Fire engine which was very popular with the children.
There was a good turn out of football teams to represent their schools in a football competition with St Thomas' CE Primary school winning in the final match against Garstang Community Primary School.
The day concluded with a family disco in the Memorial Hall with a pie and peas supper.
