HAPPINESS and fun were the main themes of the 40th anniversary St Michael's gala.
The day kicked off with the procession which wound its way around the village.
The parade included representatives of various village groups, Penwortham Morris Men, floats, Lancaster City Brass and Chorley Youth bands and 12 previous gala queens who attended to mark the 40th anniversary.
The parade returned to the village hall for the crowning of gala queen Eleanor Hallam, by ex-queen Mrs Linda Millingson.
Eleanor made her speech and declared the gala open.
Special guests were Garstang Mayor and Mayoress,Coun Gordon Harter and Mrs Lynn, Jane and Peter Eckersley, Mrs Cathy Brough, headmistress of St Michael's School, fancy dress judges Derek and Renee Penketh and the Rev Andrew Wilkinson and the Rev Constance Walley.
The afternoon saw displays by morris dancers, maypole dancing and magic acts.
A gala spokesman said "Even the weather did not let us down despite it being a cooler day. ''
Chair Jacquie Ellwood said great efforts had been made this year.
