ALMOST 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic, the legendary liner lives on for a Catterall collector.
Tony Mac has gathered up to 5,000 pieces of memorabilia linked to the tragedy-stricken vessel which includes postcards, posters, paintings, records and books gathered from markets and charity shops.
And given the many links the luxury ship had to Lancashire, the 65-year-old ex-merchant navy steward hopes to put his items on display to tie in with the 2012 Preston Guild.
He said: "I have got a big collection and am looking for somewhere to put it on show free of charge in Preston to tie in with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and the Guild in 2012.
"The Titanic has a strong Lancashire connection, with passengers and crew from the county, and we even made the uniforms in Preston.
''The anniversary is going to be massive all over the world and I'd like to do something in Preston. I would also like to include schools and community groups."
Mr Mac is also asking for any Lancastrians to come forward who could add to his collection or offer insights into their links to the Titanic.
He has been collecting Titanic and naval memorabilia for 10 years, after serving with the merchant navy for 20 years.
