Snapshots of Leyland's fascinating history are to be unveiled at key sites across the town.
South Ribble Borough Council are installing a series of five panels over the next fortnight as part of a heritage trail.

Together with a panel put outside Leyland market last year, the trail will integrate with the existing streetscape and will be possible thanks to several local businesses that are allowing the council to place its panels on their land or buildings.

The five new panels feature information about Leyland's industrial landscape and the former Regent Cinema; Leyland Motors South Works site and the firm's Social and Athletic Club; the Sumner 'Smithy and the beginnings of the Lancashire Steam Motor Company; the famous Leyland Eight luxury car; and the world renowned Leyland Clocks.

The panels will be placed outside Netto supermarket on Towngate; on the lodge building outside the British Commercial Vehicle Museum on King Street; at the forecourt of Iceland on Hough Lane; outside Progress Housing Group at the junction of Forge Street and Towngate; and on the side of Lowerhouse Dental Practice, to be viewed from Churchill Street car park.

It's a project that could not have been possible without the help of the British Commercial Vehicle Museum Trust and Dr David Hunt, the curator of the council's own Museum and Exhibition Centre on Church Road.

The trail will be installed ready for the Leyland Transport Festival, which takes place in the town centre during Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12.
