Tug-of-war boys from Bilsborrow Young Farmers’ Club pulled a ‘clear route through’ to second place in the national YFC finals.

Coach Graham Billington and the team of Craig Johnston, Steve Crane, Greg Billington, Sam Metcalf, James Billington, Daniel Thompson, Dave Easom and Luke Billington, battled teams from throughout England and Wales, defeating county teams at Myerscough College’s open day earlier this month to represent Lancashire at the northern area finals against teams from Cumbria, Yorkshire and the Isle of Man.

Six teams were in contention at the national finals at the Tenbury Show on August 3 when, for Lancashire Area A, Bilsborrow boys came a very close second to Sheffield YFC.

A host of supporters and family members went along to Tenbury to cheer them on as they had that clear route through all rounds.

“We had a fab time watching them and we’re so proud of what they achieved,” said mum and supporter Gill Billington.

The next pull for the Bilsborrow boys will be at Chipping Show this Saturday.
