A sell-out community carol concert, held at Barton Grange Garden Centre, raised a record £3,325 for three charities.

Life Now, Vine House/Cancer Care and Nordoff Robins Music Therapy each received an equal share of the proceeds.

Garden centre managing director Guy Topping and his staff converted the restaurant area into a theatre.

Music was provided by the St George’s Occasional Singers and words by Bishop Cyril Ashton. Concert organiser Carolyn Johnson said: “This was our fifth concert at the centre and it seems to get better every year.

“Our thanks go out to the Topping family for their generosity in affording us use of this super venue, especially to Guy for his effective and patient stage-management of the detailed arrangements, not forgetting all his staff who help in so many ways.

“As always, the Singers were in excellent voice. Bishop Cyril was in great form, reminding us what Advent and the Christmas story is all about. We thank all who attended in support.“

Concert-goers also enjoyed mince pies and mulled wine, supplied courtesy of the Topping Family and the Centre.
