Runner and former soldier Dave Moretta set off on his epic 18 marathons in 18 days’ challenge today (October 24) from Weeton Barracks.

Dave, 26, of Ribchester is running as a tribute to the 18 Lancashire soldiers to have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghan conflicts and has also launched the Royal British Legion’s North West Poppy Appeal.

He will run a different route in the area each day, one of which finishes in Ribchester next Tuesday, with Dave starting in the village the following morning.

Another finishes in Longridge on November 3 and the whole challenge on Remembrance Sunday at Blackburn Cathedral.

Dave hopes to raise £6,000 for the Royal British Legion during the run.
