THREE adventurous hikers are planning to walk from coast to coast in just 24 hours, but on a route with a difference.

Brothers Andy and Jim Procter, and friend Adam McLauglan, will take on a 93-mile coast-to-coast trek, stretching from the east coast of Hartlepool to Arnside in Cumbria, but part of the journey will also include a path through the Yorkshire Dales.

The friends, all former rugby players from Preston Grasshoppers, organised the event, which will start this Friday, June 10, to help raise money for the North West Air Ambulance.

The gruelling walk will see the trio taking on the equivalent of nearly four marathons in just 24 hours.

Andy, from Garstang said: “We were looking for a bigger challenge, after having previously completed the Wyre Way walk in a day.

“We had the idea of doing coast to coast – then it was ‘well how about doing it a bit differently?”

Together they have already raised more than £1,000 in sponsorship, but are hoping to beat that figure ahead of finish line on Saturday.

A group of friends are also set to give them a boost by joining them for the last 20 miles.
