A RACEHORSE breeder based in Barnacre has named his latest prospect after the manager of his favourite football team.
Lifelong Blackburn Rovers supporter Paul Clarkson has called the racehorse 'Big Sam' after Rovers' boss Sam Allardyce.
The horse, an unraced five-year-old bay gelding, is expected to make his debut in a hurdle race next month.
In the longer term Big Sam is expected to make up into a staying chaser and, who knows, one day he could be lining up in the world's greatest steeplechase – The Grand National.
Paul, together with his partner Stella Barclay, bred Sam at their stud farm and livery yard at Strickens Lane, Barnacre.
Paul is employed by the Northern Racecourses as Raceday Presenter (Master of Ceremonies) during race meetings but when he is not at the track he can frequently ly be found at Ewood Park cheering on the Rovers on matchdays.
Sam Allardyce is a keen follower of the 'Sport of Kings' having enjoyed success as an owner with European Dream, a winner of ten races to date.
If any Rovers fan or racing enthusiast who would like to receive further details about how to get involved and/or go and see Big Sam on the gallops prior to his first run, contact Paul on 01995 605790.
A few 5% shares are available – and if he doesn't win a race within 12 months you get your stake money back.
