CATTERALL Post Office will re-open today (Thursday) - thanks to the efforts of an award-winning businesswoman.
For the replacement postmaster at Catterall has recently taken a 'Top Performing' award from the Post Office for her services.
Temporary sub-postmaster Sharon Rimmer stepped in to save the day and help re-open the office on Cock Robin Lane, after Post Office bosses struggled to find a replacement after the tragic death of former postmaster Ken Heavyside.
Mr Heavyside's widow mounted a campaign to keep the office open, saying is was vital to the communities of Catterall and residents south of Garstang.
And after reading about Penny Heavyside's campaign Sharon managed to juggle her existing commitments -she already runs Bilsborrow Village Store and Post Office - to allow her to take on the job at Catterall.
Sharon says she spent last week setting up the store - and the office is now ready for operation.
She said: "I was approached by the Post Office just over a month ago but initially said no as I didn't think I would have the time to commit to it.
"But after a discussion with my husband, reading about Mrs Heavyside's campaign and knowing the Post Office were still struggling we had a re-think and managed to juggle things around so I could step in and help them get back on their feet.
"We were busy in the shop last week getting everything ready and I'm looking forward to getting it up and running again."
Sharon alongside husband David has run the Mace Bilsborrow Village Store and Post Office for five years.
And since taking over they have invested over £200,000 to help transform and modernise the business.
They have their services and the Bilsborrow store is now the core office for people across Calder Vale, Glasson Dock, Quernmore and recently St Michael's.
And it was their top business skills that meant they were recently honoured by Post Office Ltd with two awards.
The couple received the accolades for 'Top Performing Branch' and 'Top Customer Service' against other offices in the area.
Sharon, who lives in Bilsborrow said: "It's just nice to be recognised for what we do.
"Good service is all part of what we do anyway but to have an award that recognises the hard work we all do as team and how we all gel together is good for all of us."
"We're well past the times of just sending letters and there are lot more products and services to provide from banking, travel, insurance, to phone top-ups. We're always doing everything we can to help customers and we are proud that we have exceeded business expectations."
