A GREAT Eccleston mother has promised not to give up her fight against the 40mph zone outside her daughter's school.
Gill Mason said she is prepared to do whatever it takes to make Lancashire County Council listen following a successful protest march to Copp Lane Primary School last week.
100 people turned up to take part in the march up Copp Lane from the square on Wednesday morning. The road was blocked off by police for around an hour before school began so that parents and children could campaign for a 20mph limit.
Gill, 32, said: "It went much better than I expected. The police had no trouble at all and we had lots of coverage.
"I'm really really glad people took it seriously. It's important."
But despite the success of the event, Gill doesn't expect the march to make any difference to the county council.
She said: "It's a C road and it could be another five or 10 years before they even get round to looking at it. But we're going to keep going and keep pestering them."
Gill would like to see more children walking to school, but she believes that currently the road isn't safe enough.
She continued: "If we lowered the speed limit by just 10mph drivers would only lose 15 seconds of time. It's quite upsetting. The road is horrendous and although there haven't been any accidents in the past five years, there have been near misses.
"It's going to happen - it's just a matter of time."
