THE woman who has overseen the spending of around £3 million in Garstang over the past three years is on the move.
Garstang Partnership project manager Joanne Golton has obtained a new job with South Lakeland Council as regeneration programme manager for Kendal.
She said: "This new position is for three years and is a bit like my work in Garstang but on a larger
scale - so will be a challenge!"
Miss Golton's contract with Wyre Council had been due to run out early next year.
She added: "I would have liked to stay on longer here in Garstang but unfortunately, at the present time, Wyre Council weren't able to offer me a contract beyond March 2009."
The Garstang Partnership was set up about four years ago with the backing of the government and the North West Development Agency, using cash under the Market Town Initiative to help rural areas following the 2001 foot and mouth
epidemic.
The Partnership was recently given a one-year extension, but its future after Spring 2009 is uncertain. Plans have been mooted for a much smaller Garstang town centre management scheme, though that would involve traders paying increased business rates. That idea has been discussed by traders.
Since its formation the GP has been involved in numerous economic and social activity boosters in Garstang, including the Rural Wyre Children's Centre and the drawing up of the controversial Broadway Malyan plan for Garstang Town Centre, which recommended major changes in the town.
The Partnership recently learned its bid for £1million lottery funding for a revamp of the old council offices/Discovery Centre had failed.
Miss Golton takes up her new post on June 9.
