TRAVELLERS who have set up camp on land they own at Preesall have submitted a planning application in an effort to make their base permanent.
The setting up of the illegal camp last autumn off Lancaster Road has infuriated locals. The site has since been served with an injunction by Wyre Council banning any further development.
When the travellers moved on with about 20 caravans they said
they wanted to stay to make the area their home, and would be submitted a retrospective application.
That has now been lodged with Wyre Council, with the travellers saying they want to legitimise the site, with a maximum of eight pitches.
Wyre Council's planning committee is expected to make a decision in around three months.
Site resident and applicant Patrick Dundon, who has made the application, said: "The plan is that this will allow us to stay, but it's up to the council committee now. There's nothing more to say really and we can stay here while it's decided."
The application, which is available for public inspection on Wyre's website, shows eight "gypsy pitches together with the formation of hard standing" and a utility/day room "to meet a recognised need for such facilities in the area to facilitate a gypsy lifestyle."
Wyre Council has circulated local residents with information about the planning application. They have until February 19 to make their views known. Preesall Town Council will also be consulted on the plans.
