TWIN town campaigners in Garstang are celebrating after local people helped raised almost £10,000 to build an eco-friendly community house and education centre in New Koforidua.
The fundraising began earlier this year - and the success of the project means the home will be built when the latest group of Garstang visitors arrive in NK in June.
The £10,000 has been acheived with donations from people and organisations in both
Britain and Ghana.
Summer 2008 will also see the links between Garstang and NK cemented further, with visits to Garstang by NK school teacher Samuel Ofori. Also, with financial help from Comic Relief two youngsters from NK, Jocelyn and Stephen, will also visit Garstang.
As part of the on-going fundraising efforts for the Garstang-Ghana link children from two local schools, St Thomas's and SS Mary and Michael's, are joining forces tomorrow for maypole and clog dancing displays in the town centre.
The displays will take place outside the Arts Centre between 10.30am and 11am.
Children from both schools have been in contact with children in New Koforidua via a video link. Any money raised will be used to help maintain this link and help cover the costs of Mr Ofori's visit.
The pupils will also perform on May 9 at the same time and venue as part of the Garstang Walking Festival.
