Wind turbine plan for Scorton
THE picture postcard community of Scorton, near Garstang, could soon get a new tourist attraction - a hi-tech windturbine close to the heart of the old village.
The owners of The Barn plant and garden centre have applied for permission to install a 15 meter mast at their popular business.
It is the latest windturbine plan in rural Wyre where several masts have already been installed or are in the pipeline
The Barn's scheme, submitted to Wyre Council earlier this month, is expected to be decided soon.
Its planning application has been made by Mr Sam Usiskin of Lancaster-based Woosh Energy, who was behind the recent similar - and successful - application by Pilling St Johns CE School.
The Barn's owners, the Anderton family, say they want to generate renewable electricity, reduce the carbon footprint of the business and protect it against rising energy costs.
Their planning application says: "The turbine will also serve as an educational resource for local school children and as a visitor attraction."
At the top of the mast there will be a three-bladed propellor with a diameter of 5.4 metres.
The planning application says there will be no problems with noise or 'shadow flicker. The area around the turbine and the turbine base, which will be sited to the west of The Barn, will be fenced off.
Out Rawcliffe village hall already has its own wind turbine, and plans for a turbine at St John's CE School, Pilling, have been approved.
Nateby Primary School submitted plans for a windturbine but withdrew them following the controversy over plans for two major turbines in nearby Eagland Hill.
The plans for the two much bigger turbines at Eagland Hill are likely to be decided in late May.
A planning application is likely to be lodged soon for a major windturbine within the grounds of the Dew-Lay cheese factory on the A6 between Garstang and Churchtown
The Barn's planning application is available for public inspection on Wuyre Council's website and at Wyre Civic Centre, Poulton.
