STUDENTS from Garstang Community Academy scooped top place in the first swimming gala they entered – the Wyre and Fylde Swimming Gala at Fleetwood.
The 32-strong Garstang squad beat off competition from seven schools and scooped several trophies.
A strong performance by the Year 7 girls saw them take top spot in the team event with Kara Swift becoming the breaststroke champion.
The girls also took first place in the freestyle relay while the Year 7 boys finished second in the relay and James Parker became district breaststroke champion.
The Year 8 boys won their age group. Sam Dugdale is now district freestyle champion and Matthew Fricker is district backstroke champion. The Year 8 boys powered to victory in the medley relay, while the Year 8 girls finished second. Abbie Hewitt put on an incredible performance and became district freestyle champion.
Year 9 boys finished second. A good team performance from Sol Kissock, Freddie Hewitt, Sam Hollingworth and Steven Frith saw them win the freestyle relay. Special mention to Sam Hollingworth, who is now district butterfly champion. Year 9 Girls finished second in their competition. Year 10 and 11 boys Alex Ward, Kieran Davies, Josh Hulme and Ellis Hancox stormed to victory in both the freestyle relay and the medley relay.
The Year 10 and 11 girls team won the freestyle relay and the medley relay. The girls team of Rosie Hewitt, Lisa Law, Corien Saul and Rebecca Heath worked well in the relays, with stand out performances from Rebecca Heath, now district backstroke champion, and Corien Saul, now district breaststroke champion.
