Beach date for horse lovers

MoRE than 60 horse riders from throughout the North-West enjoyed a 15-mile ride in the Over Wyre countryside on Saturday.

The route for the event, which wasorganised by the Fylde Coast Bridleways Association and Lancaster and District branch of the Pony Club, started at Knott End and took in the beach to Pilling, the bridleways of Preesall, Pilling and Stalmine and a section of private track.

The Pony Club section of the ride, the North West Regional Pony Club Endurance Championship, was sponsored by Dengie Horse Feeds and attracted entrants from Blackburn, Holcombe, Lancaster, Pendle Forest and Wheelton Pony Clubs.

The winning team was the Lancaster Lions, comprising Holly Mercer Jones (from Hambleton), April Ngei (from Preesall) and Ruby Sheard and Lousie Turton (from Lancaster).

Maureen Helme, from Longridg,e donated a trophy and prize of a watch to the best turned out horse and rider in the bridleways ride, which was won by Gillian Lewis, of Out Rawcliffe.
