CHARITY shop staff in Garstang are urging people not to leave sacks of donated goods in the shop’s doorway at night.
The plea from officials at the Sue Ryder store, Church Street, follows a series of thefts of bags left by donors from the doorway of the shop.
Store manager Anne Hankin (pictured) became concerned when she passed the shop one evening, and spotted several bags of donated goods in the doorway.
She left them there, intending to return shortly afterwards to take them into the store, but when she did return the bags had gone.
In an effort to test her theory that items left outside the shop are being stolen, a friend of Anne’s left a sack stuffed with old rags outside the door one night. It too was taken.
Anne said: “These thefts could be losing us a lot of money. I would encourage people who leave items to leave them during the shop’s opening hours.”
