The Fellside Group of Churches has had a busy time with a confirmation service and the Archdeacon’s visitation.

The Bishop of Lancaster, the Rt Rev Geoff Pearson, was reported as being in his traditional “good form” for the confirmation service at St Lawrence’s Church, Barton.

He confirmed, and in some cases baptised, 24 Fellside youngsters and adults plus four candidates from Preston.

The church was filled with families and well-wishers who enjoyed this important occasion, made that much more enjoyable by the Bishop’s characteristic light yet meaningful touch.

The second event saw the Archdeacon of Lancaster, the Venerable Michael Everitt, spending the day visiting the churches in the Fellside Group, concluding at St Hilda’s, Bilsborrow. Formally entitled a visitation, it was an inspection carried out periodically to ensure that church administration, records and fabric are being maintained at an acceptable level.

In St Hilda’s case, and following talks with the Rector, the Rev Jeff Finch, the Archdeacon went along in the evening to a Parochial Church Council meeting, attended by the wardens and members.

It was a time when he could ask questions and offer information and advice on higher church affairs.

After the meeting, the Archdeacon joined all present for a group photo before departing, seemingly well satisfied that St Hilda’s was in safe hands.
