They meet for fellowship and friendship and would be delighted to see new faces at their monthly meetings, normally held on the third Thursday of the month at Whitechapel Village Hall.
At the May meeting, Irene Reid, Longridge’s long serving crossing patrol officer, gave a very interesting talk on her life as a ‘Lollipop Lady’, who two years ago was awarded the MBE for 46 years devoted service to safely crossing children and others across the road.
Irene showed a DVD of the ceremony at Buckingham Palace and passed around her award presented to her by The Queen, which was greatly admired. She continued to entertain members with her amusing poetry and declared she had no retirement plans!
The next meeting is on Thursday, June 19, at 7.15pm in the Village Hall, when everyone looks forward to welcoming Jane Curtis speaking about “How to Grow Old Gracefully”.
Further talks this year include one on poetry; one on Dubai, its laws and traditions and another entitled “Buried Treasure”.
Visitors and new members are always welcome and subscription for a year is just £10, or £2 for occasional meetings.
