Local businesses and people within Garstang have been working together on an arts project to commemorate WW1.
The Garstang in bloom project entitled ‘Commemorating our Heroes Celebrating our Blooms’ is a community venture bringing together various communities through the inclusion of art and history.
The aim of the project, chaired by Norah Hoyles MBE, and implemented by local artist Salina Somalya was to create a sculptural piece of artwork that commemorates 100 years on from the outbreak of World War One but also to celebrate the Golden, 50th anniversary of The Royal Horticultural Society.
The society are re symbolising their anniversary with sunflowers and poppies and the sculptural artwork will be a curvilinear trail of these flowers created from metal and acrylic, set against the backdrop off the ‘Mound’ at the top of Garstang High Street as a constant reminder of our heroes.
The project will commence on October 1 and will be completed early November in time for Remembrance Day.
