Fraud teams are warning pet lovers in Lancashire not to fall victim to a heartless online puppy fraud.

Action Fraud has noticed a rise in reports concerning the purchase of pets advertised on popular online auction websites, with payment requested by money transfer or bank transfer. The conmen usually ask for further advanced payments for courier charges, shipping fees or vet bills but the pet does not materialise.

In 2008, Deepdale mum Kayleigh Holmes was duped into wiring money to Cameroon after being tricked into buying a King Charles Spaniel, normally costing £400, for £150.
