The community of Knowle Green has once again been left disheartened after thieves stole gardening equipment from the village hall.

Thieves are believed to have struck between Wednesday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 11 when the thefts of a Mountfield mower, a strimmer and three cans of fuel were discovered.

Villagers now believe it will cost in the region of £800 to replace the items and have new locks fitted to the secure container the thieves broke into at the side of the village hall.

A village hall spokeswoman said: “It is just very sad. We actually got the mower with a grant for the village and it is used by the village hall and the church.”

She went on to say this was not the first time the village had suffered because of thieves.

Lights on the village hall car park have been stolen three times in recent years and the container has also been broken into in the past, and a strimmer stolen. Also, several years ago, the village graveyard was targeted.

Longridge police are investigating the incident and are also appealing for any witnesses who may have spotted anything suspicious in the area to give them a call on 01772 254843 or 101.
