CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save Claughton household waste recycling centre will this week put the final touches to a rebuttal document against the county council review report.

Mr Robert Lobell, chairman of action group STING (Save Tip In Garstang) has prepared a draft document which presents a case for householders affected in the Wyre area outlining why the site should be saved.

Town councillors also voted unanimously in favour this week of a formal council response to the review, which expressed their disappointment no councillor or officer from LCC involved with the consultation had been willing to come and talk with councillors and explain the proposals.

Mr Lobell told Garstang Town Council the on-line e-petition had attracted 1,313 signatures ‘the biggest Lancashire County Council had ever received” and said his report would be finalised in “the next day or two.”

Mayor Coun Lady Dulcie Atkins thanked him for his efforts and added: “I think we should thank all the shops and businesses who so kindly have taken our petition, they’ve been brilliant. It has been a real community involvement.”
