A family who needed to raise £10,000 for a life-saving trip to America for their poorly daughter is “overwhelmed” to have reached their target in just a week.

The Garstang family set up an online donation page for their daughter Pippa Belle Cole, three, who has a cancerous brain tumour and needs specialist reatment in the USA.

In just a week, the family has received £10,297 in donations, and more money is still pouring in.

Mum Michelle Howard said: “‘We are overwhelmed by everybody’s support, generosity and well wishes. This has eased the financial burden of this awful situation we are in. We would like to thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts.”

Pippa was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was just 18 months old.

The brave youngster was given the all clear in September but three months later the cancer had returned.

Doctors told the family that her only chance of survival was to have Proton Beam therapy in America, however while the treatment is funded by the NHS, the associated costs of the 11 week trip will fall to the family.

Pippa has already undergone brain surgery to remove the aggressive brain tumour, called an ependymoma Grade 3, and will fly to America once she has recovered in just four to five weeks time.

Mum of three Michelle,34, said: “Pippa’s surgery went well and they managed to remove all the tumour.

“She was very poorly for the first five days and also contracted chemical meningitis but thankfully she is now recovering well and we are hoping to return home this week. Our next steps are for Pippa to have a portacath fitted and to have a lumber puncture to check the cancer has not spread in to the spinal fluid.”

The family are hoping to raise more funds with a fun day at the Preesall Indoor Archery and Air Rifle centre on Saturday February 7 from 11am until 4pm.

There will be face painting and a balloon release competition as well as a raffle which includes a signed Steven Gerrard football shirt as one of the prizes. Raffle tickets are available from Harrys Sandwich Shop, Conway cards in Garsang, Road Runner Tyres in Cabus and Bourne Arms, in Knott End.
