THE community of Whitechapel can hardly believe that it is 18 months ago since the completion of the village’s multi-use games area.
Residents say that the facility, close to Whitechapel Primary School, the village hall and bowling green, is proving to be an incredible asset to the community.
Many favourable comments are made by visitors seeing it for the first time, they say.
The MUGA is being used for football, tennis, school PE lessons and tournaments, youth group sessions and also bowling during the winter season .
The MUGA committee is now enrolling members for the forthcoming year and fees are a compromise between making the MUGA affordable to everyone and raising enough money to cover the necessary administration and maintenance.
Annual membership from April 1 through to March 31, 2013, will be £12 and for the winter season only (October to March ) £6.
Membership fees cover all bookings for a year – there are no additional session fees. There are also special rates for sports clubs who use the MUGA regularly.
Also, the committee would not like anyone to be priced out of membership, and if the fees are a problem, particularly for large families, people are asked to get in touch and members will try to help.
There is a copy of the rules with the membership form and details of booking on the www.wice.org.uk website.
The next task is to provide a pavilion for spectators and storage, and everyone hopes to raise funds at the “Fun, Food and a Night at the Races” on Saturday, May 5, at 7.30pm in the village hall. There will be filmed horseracing and a pie and peas supper.
