Gardening club says welcome to spring

SPRING flowers and bulbs were the focus of attention of around 60 members at Garstang Gardening Club’s spring show held after the club’s annual meeting at The Crofters, Cabus.

Officials and committee elected were: chairman, Ray Pearson; vice-chairman, Hilary Hine; treasurer, Roger Broadbelt, secretary, Susan McDade; programme secretary, Ruth Cowell; publicity officer, Anthony Coppin. Committee 
members: Nancy Cowell, Patrick Pickford, June Gornall and Bob Sutcliffe.

Prizewinners: Class 1: Three Daffodil bulbs (provided by the club): 1 Mary Curwen (who won the Cath Morris Memorial Trophy), 2 Nancy Cowell, 3 Peter Wiseman: Class 2: Miniature Daffodils in a pot: 1 Raymond Jenkinson, 2 June Jenkinson, 3 Ben Andrews; Class 3: Any other bulbs (not daffs): 1 Mary Curwen, 2 Sue McDade; 3 Joyce Meiring; Class 4: 3 standard daffs - (cut stems in a vase): 1 Ruth Cowell, 2 Elisabeth Bertenshaw; Class 5: 3 mini daffodils (cut stems in a vase): 1 Mary Thornber; 2 June Jenkinson; 3 Margaret Rainford; Class 6: Spring arrangement (flowers and foliage): 1 Joyce Meiring (who won the Anne Wiggins memorial trophy), 2 Mary Brow, 3 Elisabeth Bertenshaw; Class 7: Hellebore bloom (floating in water): 1 and 2 Janet Sharp (who won the Patricia Letton memorial trophy), 3 Don Worsnop.
