Garstang’s former tip site will reopen next week as a Community Recycling and Re-use Centre.

The Brockholes Way site at Catterall will reopen on September 18 following much campaigning by local residents – along with County Coun Sandra Perkins – who were furious when their tip was closed in 2012.

The primary focus of the service will be to accept good quality items that can be sold, re-used or refurbished, such as furniture and electricals, or wastes such as plastic bottles, metal and textiles that have a value and can be resold to help offset operating costs

The pioneering new facility will be run in partnership between Lancashire County Council and local charity
Refurb (Wyre and Fylde) which reconditions and sells used goods.

The aim is to enable local residents to dispose of things which have a resale value, or could be recycled or reused, as well as get rid of extra garden waste. However it will not accept general rubbish.

A County Council spokesman said: “The primary focus of the service will be to accept good quality items that can be sold, re-used or refurbished, such as furniture and electricals, or wastes such as plastic bottles, metal and textiles that have a value and can be resold to help offset operating costs. In addition the facility will accept garden waste to assist with a need for extra facilities of this type in the area.”

The centre will open from 10am to 5pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, except during summer months ( April 1 to September 30) when it will open at 9am and close at 6pm at weekends, and on bank holidays throughout the year when it will open at 9am and close at 6pm.

will be run in partnership between the council and local charity Refurb (Wyre and Fylde) which reconditions and sells used goods.
