Lee House Church opened its doors and gardens for the inaugural Great Thornley Bake-Off on Saturday.
The rain stayed away as 82 entries competed for centre stage in Thornley Community Space’s latest fundraiser.
Local Farmhouse Fare guru, Helen Colley, was the guest judge and was seriously impressed with the quality of the baking on display and has vowed to return again next year.
The winners were: Showstopper - Sue and Joyce from The Derby Arms. Large cake - Laura Brogan. Small cakes/muffins - Leslie Arrowsmith. Biscuits - Lesley Lloyd. Tray bake - Harriett Lloyd. Pies and tarts - Eileen Forshaw (whose pork and stilton pie was also voted best in show) and Under 12s - Anna Haworth-Wheatman.
A great day was had by all with everyone joining in the garden party games, bat-the-rat, coconut shy and the tombola in beautiful surroundings.
Everyone also enjoyed a Pampered Chef demonstration by Tessa who entertained the guests whilst judging was taking place.
Most of the cakes were sold with all proceeds from the day going to the Thornley School renovation fund.
The few left over at the end of the day were donated to the Belarusian children currently staying with families in Chipping.
Many thanks to everyone who took part or went along to chat and eat cake - and of course thanks to Joe and Rosalba at Lee House, to Tessa and Helen Colley for making the day a success.
If any local businesses are interested in having a stall at the next event - a Fashion Show at Ferrari’s on July 18 - they are asked to get in contact.
Also, if you you would like to go along - then please ring 01772 782429 for further details or email info@thornleycommunityspace.
