ROLL out the bunting, hang out the flags and come together as a community to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Community leaders and neighbours across the Garstang district are gearing up for a series of events across the weekend.

If you have yet to make plans or were planning to celebrate in the comfort of your own home, take a look at the jam-packed calendar of events in the area to commemorate this momentous occasion.

Garstang

Friday, June 1

Jubilee walks in Garstang. A chance to see how residents have entered into the spirit and decorated gardens with a walk led by countryside rangers. Meet outside Garstang Visitor Centre, Cherestanc Square, for walks at 4.30pm and 7pm. Approx time one to one and a half hours.

Saturday, June 2

Diamond Jubilee Card Competition Exhibition, Garstang Arts Centre.

Children from Garstang schools submitted entries, with the winning designs being sent to the Queen. The youngsters’ artwork will be on display from 10am to 12.30pm.

Diamond Jubilee Bowling Singles Competition. The Subscription Bowling Club, 9am to 10.30am. Entry £5 per person. Prize money will be 75% of entry fees, 25% will be donated to the Mayor of Garstang’s charity. Contact David Lord on 01995 606678.

Diamond Jubilee ‘Fun Doubles’ Competition. The Crown Bowling Club welcomes a bowler and non-bowler to take part in an afternoon game starting at noon. There will also be a darts and pool competition. Cash prizes and food available. Entry £2 per person. Prize money will be 75% of entry fees – the other 25% donated to the Mayor of Garstang’s Charity. Contact Phil Brick 07766 487665.

Diamond Jubilee Tournament. Garstang Tennis Club, at Playing Fields off Lancaster Road, hold a Red, White & Blue themed fun afternoon of social tennis, followed by a barbecue from 2 to 5 pm. Entrance free, drinks and barbecue food available to buy. There will be prizes for the best dressed Red, White & Blue themed lady, man and junior, so put on those Union Jack shorts, and come and play some tennis!

Sunday, June 3

Children’s Kwik Cricket Match. Garstang Cricket Club, 10am to 1pm, followed by six-by-side cricket match from 2pm onwards. Teams including Garstang, Fulwood and Broughton, Longridge, Grimsargh, Vernon-Carus and Penwortham.

Fairtrade Big Lunch.

All are invited to Cherestanc Square for an afternoon of celebrations. Live music by Magwitch. The event starts at noon, everyone to bring along their own food and drink. Booths will have a marquee on the Square.

Garstang YMCA Leisure Centre Open Day. At the centre off Windsor Road 2pm to 4pm. A number of activities for people to trial new sports and hobbies.

Monday, June 4

Garstang Children’s Festival. 10am procession starts to assemble; 11am crowning of Festival Queen; 11.05am start of the procession, followed by an afternoon of activities.

Lighting the bonfire. Organised by the Fire Brigade on the Community Centre Car Park, 10.30pm.

Tuesday, June 5

Diamond Jubilee Celebration. St Thomas’s Church, 2pm.

Strawberry Tea. Garstang Arts Society is hosting the event from the Garstang Arts Centre, High Street, from 2pm to 4pm. Weather permitting, some tables will be outside in the courtyard.

Thursday, June 7

Jubilee Lunch. Garstang Free Methodist Church, Windsor Road. All are welcome to the lunch from 11.30am to 12.30pm. Come dressed for a tea party and bring finger foods to share. Booking essential, call 01995 602852.

Brownies Coffee Evening. At St Michael’s on Wyre Village Hall, from 5pm to 7pm.

Friday, June 1

St Michael’s on Wyre CE Primary School Coffee Morning. To be held at school from 10.30am to 11.30am. The pupils are coming to school dressed ‘from a decade’ in the last 60 years, Class 4 will be displaying artefacts from the past 60 years and the choir will sing.

Sunday, June 3

A special Jubilee Service in St Michael’s on Wyre CE Church.

Saturday, June 16

Diamond Jubilee themed Village Gala. Parade at noon from the Village Hall. Followed by a Diamond Jubilee Party at St Michael’s on Wyre Village Hall starting 7pm. Tickets from Gala committee members or from village school.

Claughton

Sunday, June 3

Diamond Jubilee Big Picnic. Claughton Parish Council, Claughton WI, St Mary’s School, Claughton Memorial Hall Committee, Claughton Catholic Association, and the Badminton Club host a Picnic Day in the gardens of Claughton Hall. An informal day of outdoor activities, music and fun is planned, along with a display of memorabilia, showing key events in Claughton during this time.

Claughton’s Diamond Jubilee Beacon lit at Cobble Hey Farm, Monday June 4 around 10pm.

Calder Vale

Saturday, June 2

Jubilee Exhibition and Celebration. Memorabilia and old photos of Calder Vale and the surrounding area in the Methodist Church. It will be held on Saturday, June 2, from 10am until 4pm, and coincide with Jubilee celebrations on Sunday, June 3, from 1pm until 4pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits available. Diamond Jubilee Village Event. Starting with a service in the village hall at 11am, followed by a picnic and games on the playing field.

Winmarleigh

Sunday, June 3

Diamond Jubilee Family Service and Big Lunch. St Luke’s Church, Church Lane, from 11am. A Jacobs Join in the church grounds from 12.30pm. Sandwiches, tea, coffee and juice will be provided, please bring a savoury or sweet and your own drinks. There will be a toast to the Queen, judging of the competitions, raffle and tombola.

Out Rawcliffe

Saturday, June 2

Jubilee and Olympic Celebration. Torch relay around the village boundary starting from Out Rawcliffe Village Hall at 9am, followed by a picnic in the hall grounds at approx 2pm. There will be games and competitions during the afternoon and a visit by the Poco Loco Drum Band. There will be a family Hoe Down at 7.30pm with a Jacobs Join Supper. Bilsborrow

Sunday June 3

Big Jubilee Tea. To be held at the village hall from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. A traditional British sing-a-long will be taking place, as well as a quiz and arts and crafts. It is a Jacob’s Join celebratory tea and everyone is asked to take along party food to share. This is a free event but donations of red, white and blue decorations appreciated. Diamond Jubilee Family Fun Day.

Whitechapel Street Party organised by Whitechapel and Inglewhite WI at the Village Hall. Buffet at noon, children’s entertainer from 1pm to 3pm and sideshows and stalls.
