The stories behind some of the most exciting historical and archaeological discoveries in Lancashire are to be told to members and supporters of Garstang Historical Society at the first meeting of their new season.
The group resumes its monthly lectures on Wednesday, September 9, with an illustrated talk on “Lancashire’s Hidden Histories” by the county’s museums conservation manager Heather Davies.
Among the finds she will talk about is the Silverdale Viking hoard, a collection of treasures discovered by a metal detector enthusiast buried in a field at Silverdale in 2011.
The hoard included included 200 items, including beautifully crafted jewellery together with coins from several Viking kingdoms of Britain, from Europe and even Arabia.
The society’s monthly lectures are held on the second Wednesday of the month at Garstang United Reformed Church hall at 7.30pm.
