EXPLOSIVE gas cylinders and fuel tanks were cleared from a farm building after a huge fire engulfed a neighbouring barn.
Massive flames lit up the sky as fire ripped through the barn at Hy-Fly Game Hatcheries on Pilling Lane, Preesall.
More than 30 firefighters tackled the blaze which broke out at 8pm on Friday only metres away from petrol fuelled farm equipment as well as propane, butane and acetylene cylinders.
Six fire crews from Preesall, Bispham, Garstang, Wesham, Fleetwood and Lancaster worked through the night to control the raging inferno, also later being joined by relief crews from Fulwood, Blackpool, St Annes, Lytham and Penwortham.
Station Manager Gary West said: “The building was stored with a large amount of straw and hay, but the problem for us was the neighbouring building which stored farm equipment.
“A combine harvester, fork lift trucks, fuel tanks and gas cylinders, including the very dangerous acetylene, all had to be removed immediately before they were affected by the heat.
“Due to the remoteness of the farm we had to get six pumps down to the site and the water supply was some distance from the blaze.”
Nobody was injured and no animals were in the building which was destroyed. The cause is being treated as suspicious.
