A Grimsargh dog lover is inviting fellow owners and their pets to join her in putting their best feet forward in aid of the charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Lucy Williams, 22, who works at Barton Grange Garden Centre, yet also carrying out voluntary work for Guide Dogs and the RSPCA in her spare time, has organised a “Go Walkies” event for Sunday, May 19, at Beacon Fell.

Lucy, who will be doing the sponsored walk with her dog Tilly and is also a collection box co-ordinator for Guide Dogs, says she decided to organise the event after attending a similar one at the Guide Dog’s Atherton training centre.

She said: “I thought it’d be a really fun way to raise money for a great charity that gives blind and partially sighted people the confidence to go out into their local community to do something as simple as getting milk from the shop. The transformation that a Guide Dog can make to a blind or partially sighted person’s life is incredible. As well as raising funds for a good cause, the walk is a great way for people and families to get out and enjoy their local countryside. It also allows dog owners to get together and make new friends.

“The walk will last about 50 mins to one hour. There are no steep inclines or anything like that. Wellies or walking boots would be advisable as some areas can get muddy. I would also suggeste waterproofs just in case. The walk is suitable for people of all ages provided they are able to walk for the mentioned amount of time. There are facilities on site at Beacon Fell, including toilets and a café. Parking is £1 on the main car park. I’ll be there from 10am onwards to register people and the walk should hopefully start at 11am.”

The link to the registration page where people can sign up for the walk is: www.guidedogs.org.uk/go-walkies/register/beacon-fell-country-park/ and people can download their sponsor forms using www.guidedogs.org.uk/fileadmin/gdmain/user/Home/Go_Walkies_microsite/Go_Walkies_Sponsor_Form1.pdf

People can also contact Guide Dog’s directly or they can contact Lucy on lucyw90@hotmail.co.uk.

If people don’t have their own dog, they are still welcome to take part and Guide Dogs has a puppy mascot called Nuba who people can sponsor.
