Jonathan Leech, of Garstang Fish and Chips, has been named as one of the UK’s top 10 fish friers in the 2015 National Fish and Chip Awards.
Young business entrepreneur Jonathan is up against nine other contenders who are all fishing for the top prize.
If his is crowned the “best plaice”, he will take home the Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year Award in a competition which celebrates the best young fish friers across the country.
So far contestants have had to take part in a gruelling judging process including an intense telephone interview and a rigorous testing day at the National Federation of Fish Friers’ training school in Leeds.
Jonathan, who opened his business, in Stoops Weind, of Park Hill Road, just 12 months ago said: “It feels great to be acknowledged for the hard work that has been put in over the past 12 months.
“I hope that by being in the awards it will promote the shop and the town centre, as it is good for the folk of Garstang and the community.”
The restaurant and takeaway, which has seating for up to 45 people, celebrated its one year anniversary on August 20 and owner Jonathan is hoping to continue to strive towards excellence. The next stage of the competition will whittle down the candidates to the top five finalists, who will then receive a mystery judging shop visit.
The final five friers will battle it out at the awards ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel on January 20, 2015.
