Queen Vic Fish and Chips, Preston and Chorley

Queen Vic Fish and Chips, in Moor Lane, Preston, has proved so popular it opened a new site in Chorley last year.

Its decor is modern and clean and has ample seating for anyone who fancies eating in.

Last year, Chorley Borough Council awarded the Carr Lane site with a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 (Very Good).

It sells the usual fish favourites, as well as pizza, sausages, meat pies and chicken nuggets.

When the Lancashire Post sampled food from the Moor Lane chippy last October, our reviewer gave it a splendid 10 out of 10.

Skippers Traditional Fish and Chips, Euxton

Eco-fans will be delighted to know Skippers Traditional Fish and Chips, in Talbot Row, Euxton, serves Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified fish, which is traced back to well-managed fisheries. It sources Frozen-At-Sea (FAS) certified fish, as the travel logistics for supplying wet fish make it inconsistent for their use. Owner Andrew Crook has run the business for more than a decade.

Bill and Ben’s Chippy opened in Maitland Street, Preston, in 1990.

As well as the obvious fish and chips choices, it serves Holland’s pies, fried chicken, burgers and even fried cheese sticks. Open Tuesdays to Saturdays 11.30am until 2pm and 4.30pm until 6.30pm.

Fish and Chip Plaice, Garstang

Fish and Chip Plaice, in Hazelhurst Drive, Garstang, has made a name for itself in the National Fish and Chip Awards, by being in the top three in the region twice.

It is run by Nicola Clark, who uses good quality produce, sourcing fresh cod and haddock from Morecambe and Fleetwood.

The premises also has an eat-in area. Nicola also caters for parties.

Kay's Chippy, Thornton Cleveleys

Kay’s Chippy, in Rough Lea Road, Thornton Cleveleys, is a family-run business that has been established for 26 years and has earned a reputation for its quality and service.

As a fish and chip restaurant, people have the option to dine in, or take out.

Granada Fish Bar, in North Albert Street, Fleetwood, prides itself on its many, many awards.

It has been honoured with Fish and Chip Quality awards for the last 11 years and has been highly commended in the Care in the Community category of the Fish and Chip Awards.

It has been voted top five shops in the North West many times and was even crowned world champions in mushy peas in 2012/13.

It is so good, celebrities travel to the fish bar. Famous names include comedian Bobby Ball, former Coronation Street actor Bill Tarmey and Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson.
