THE man behind plans to build a network of ‘energy farms’ across Lancashire, including one at St Michael’s, says an overhaul of planning laws would help farmers.

Simon Rigby, whose company Farmgen has already opened plants which turn crops into energy, including one at Carr Farm in Warton, near Preston, welcomed the plans which have seen guidelines cut from 1,000 to just 50 pages. Under the changes, the anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities he is bidding to build will not even require planning permission.

Mr Rigby said: “I don’t see them as a threat to neighbours any more than any other part of an agricultural business would be.”
