GARSTANG Town Crier Hilary McGrath was in fine voice to help the town mark the start of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
She read out a public proclamation to the townspeople and a greeting to Her Majesty, 60 years after the Queen acceded to the throne following her father’s death.
Garstang Mayor Lady Dulcie Atkins and her husband, MEP Robert Atkins, plus town councillors and members of the public gathered at the Market Cross to hear the reading of the proclamation.
It was followed with a service at St Thomas’s CE Church, Church Street, attended by pupils from a number of local schools.
Performances were given by Jenny Barwise and George Dorrity.
Lady Atkins said: “It was a really lovely day – we had a good crowd and the weather held perfectly for us. We had all the teachers and schoolchildren attending the service, some beautiful performances and it was a nice start to the celebrations.”
