Wyre Council is sending out household enquiry forms(HEFs) to all known empty properties and to those households which did not respond to last year’s annual invitation to update electoral details.

It is in preparation for national changes to the electoral registration system.

Individual electoral
registration is set to
replace the present system, which dates back to Victorian time, whereby the head of a household registered everyone living in a property.

With each individual now responsible for registering themselves, the council is seeking to ensure that voters do not miss out. By law, residents need to provide the information requested on the HEF and can be fined up to £1,000 for failing to do so.

Garry Payne, Wyre’s electoral registration officer, stressed the HEF itself does not comprise a registration form.
