Experience the power of Pendle Hill

Organisers say the seven mile hike over Pendle Hill on June 25 will have both an animal and conservation theme.

Fox Holes, Cat Holes and Boar Clough are all the names of locations on or near the walk which will be led by Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty(AONB) officer Cathy Hopley, who said: “Given clear weather, the views from the summit of the hill are breath-taking and the reason why thousands of people make their way to the top each year.

“We’ll be following a popular route onto the hill from the village of Barley and it will be a great chance for people to find out about the new Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership scheme which is currently being developed.”

She said: “The very popularity of Pendle Hill can lead to problems with congestion and erosion and it’s hoped that the Heritage Lottery-funded Landscape Partnership scheme could help to address some of these issues. We also want to encourage local people and visitors to find out more about the area’s brilliant heritage including its archaeology, geology, traditional buildings and past inhabitants.”

The return route of the walk will take in Black Moss reservoir and the sculpture trail at the top of Aitken Wood, before returning to the village. Places cost £3 and must be booked in advance. For more information and to book a place call 01200 448000 or email [email protected]
