Neighbours in Garstang have joined forces to form what is thought to be the town’s first residents’ association.

People living on the Castle View estate off Dimples Lane hope the move will foster close community links and say they are already delighted at the positive response.

The new group, the Castle View Residents’ Association, covers Chepstow Gardens, Heald Croft, Pasture Drive and Spalding Avenue. A second meeting is due to be held tonight.

One topic likely to be of interest to residents will be the green areas dotted throughout the estate. These were sold in 2007 when the original developer went bust and are understood to have changed hands again recently.

A spokesperson said: “We are thrilled to have had such a good response at this very early stage. Setting up the group has really got people talking and we are very optimistic.

“Already there’s a developing sense of belonging and togetherness throughout the estate and this sort of increased social cohesion is simply priceless.”

Castle View was developed in 2002 after an appeal against refusal of planning permission was upheld.

Bounded on one side by the Lancaster Canal and with some properties enjoying views of Greenhalgh Castle, it features a good mix of housing and is home to people of all ages.

The spokesperson added: “Castle View is a very nice place to live and we’ll do our utmost to make it even better. We hope to bring people closer together with a strong social spirit.

“However, if any issues do crop up we will be able to take a collective approach and work for the common good.

“We intend to develop good channels of communication at Castle View and establish good relationships with official bodies and other interested parties.”
