A GRANDFATHER was killed as he crossed Garstang Road, near to Dewlay Cheese Factory, while out on a Sunday walk.

Keen fell walker, James Cassidy, a member of the Fylde Ramblers, was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra, while crossing the busy main road.

The 75-year-old had been out with the group on a route around the Garstang area, when the incident happened at 4.30pm on March 4.

Mr Cassidy from Poulton-le-Fylde was taken by North West Air Ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital but later died from his injuries.

A tribute from his family said: “Jim was a much loved father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.”

A stretch of the A6 was closed for two hours following the incident to allow officers to investigate the scene.
