The Mayor and Mayoress of Garstang have thanked guests after £3,600 was raised at the Mayoral Ball.

The money, will go towards the chosen mayoral charity of the year which is youth sport development in Garstang something which Mayor Coun Graham Sailsbury believes is very important.

Speaking on December 5 at the Ball in Wyre Bank, Garstang Graham said: “Sport in my experience has such a positive role to play on our youth development, teaching life skills and values of, discipline, the rewards, gained through team effort in victory, experiencing the bonding of team members through defeat which often last a life time.

“No one truly appreciates winning without experiencing losing. These life skills are foundation blocks that are carried forward and help bond and build a successful community.

“In Garstang we are fortunate to have a diverse choice of very well run sport clubs which I believe currently set Garstang apart and ahead of the game as a successful Town to be proud of. My wish is to see these foundations reinforced and supported well into the future.”

The auction on the night included a painting by the local Lancashire Artist Michael Ashcroft a break in the Lake District, a luxury canal barge weekend along with shopping vouchers, sports tickets and much more.

The mayor gave special thanks on the evening to organiser Belinda Moss, Town Crier Hillary McGrath, compare and DJ Darrell Edwards, live singer Anthony, the staff of Wyre Bank and the companies involved with raffle prizes and donations.
